Client Spotlight: Life On Time- Maidstone, Kent

“We are an entrepreneurial business that promotes wellbeing and personal development across the globe, through our app called YouHQ.

It all started based on my vision to create a goal-setting app that could also help people’s mental health. I am a massive goal setter, setting goals for myself from a young age mainly based around my sport, but I realised the benefit of having a focus in life.

Psychology has always intrigued me, and my final dissertation for my Exercise and Sport Science degree at university was in sports psychology. I am fascinated by getting the best out of yourself, not only in sport, but in business and life in general.

So, it got me thinking, is there an app out there that allows you to set goals, store your goals and have access to wellbeing information? This was about 3 years ago and became the start of a plan. With my background and the knowledge that I had from running my own business and seeing mental health issues amongst my own staff, this made me believe that this was genuinely something that was needed and could be useful for people to take control of their lives.

With this plan in mind, I found a Bulgarian developer with whom I started building a multifunctional app that I wanted to release to the world. Over the year of development, I got some of my friends from university – a clinical psychologist, a teacher, and a designer – to give me some feedback on the app. It was encouraging, they said that it was good and would like to be involved, and a suggestion was made that it would be ideal for children.

And so, the YouHQ app was born! It is a well-being and personal development tool for schools and colleges, targeted at secondary school age children and is available on Google play store or the App store. The app is linked between students and teachers, where students are encouraged to use the app to log their mood and teachers can keep track of their wellbeing and offer support where necessary. It also enhances safeguarding and allows teachers to identify potential issues and get the right people in to help the child.

The features of the app are also designed to help the students look after themselves, inspire and motivate, with value-based goal setting to teach children how to create values and live the lift they want to live, as well as creating plans and action plans to get them where they want to be and providing information on anxiety and wellbeing. I’m really passionate about the children learning goal setting, it’s such a simple skill to teach and it’s so powerful so I think that’s one of the key selling points. I would put all my success in life down to being really dedicated to setting goals and specific plans and being as motivated as I can. I would have loved an app like this when I was younger, where I could have kept track and seen what I’d have achieved, instead of writing it all down on a notepad and forever losing it!

Our first proper customer, and big local school, was Valley Park in Maidstone. This time last year, we were in 3 schools and have since grown to 15 schools around the world including Doha, Bangkok, and Mexico. We have just signed up with Leicestershire County Council, which has been our biggest success to date, who are piloting the app with six of their biggest secondary schools and if this is successful, it could be rolled out to 50 or more schools.

I appreciate how busy schools are and how many requests they must get for products that will benefit them, but if there is anybody reading this that is involved in local schools, councils, or academy trusts within the Maidstone area, it would be really good to speak to you!

We offer the app on a 7-day trial period to see how you get on with it, giving training to teachers and children, and working with you to find the best way to roll it out to your school, be that the whole school or just certain age groups.

Our referral scheme means that you can get 10% off for you and the school that you have referred.”
