In January, we released our Recession Busting Business Plan template, and here we are now, at the end of Q1 2023 and I wondered how you are doing against the plan you drew up.

It seems we may be avoiding a recession, but it has to be said that times are tough. There are a lot of pressures on small businesses and a plan right now would go a long way in helping you through.

If you remember, the plan was a simple template that helped you:

  1. Identify your Personal and Business Goals
  2. Set your Vision and Goals for 2023
  3. Set a Budget for each quarter in 2023
  4. List the Opportunities and Threats to your business
  5. Create an Action Plan of things you need to do next year.

If you have completed the plan, we would love to hear from you and find out how it’s going! If you haven’t yet started, it’s not too late.

Why planning and goal setting is important for your business

Goal setting and planning will help you achieve success by providing direction, clarity, and focus.

When you set clear and specific goals for your business, you can prioritise your efforts and allocate resources more effectively. This helps you avoid distractions and stay focused on what’s most important. For example, setting a goal to increase sales by 20% in the next quarter can help you stay motivated and ensure that the necessary marketing and financial efforts are geared towards achieving that target.

Planning is also critical because it helps you break down your goals into smaller, actionable steps. By creating a plan with specific timelines and milestones, it makes it easier to take consistent and deliberate action towards achieving your goals whilst tracking your progress and making adjustments along the way if needed.

In summary, goal setting and planning are important in business because they help you stay motivated and accountable, giving you focus for a clear direction that the business should take at any one time.  By setting specific goals and creating a plan to achieve them, you are able to prioritise your efforts, monitor your progress to see if you are on track to achieve your desired outcome and ultimately, achieve greater success for your business.
