Inflation hits highest level in a decade at 4.2% as fuel and energy bills soar

The inflation rate has hit its highest level for almost a decade as prices rise across the UK economy, with fuel and energy costs leading the way.

Reports showed a jump from 3.1% to 4.2% in October, this is a bigger leap than expected and will put pressure on the Bank of England to raise bank of England.

An increase in energy prices contributed most to the spike.

Real Living Wage rises to £9.90 an hour

More than 300,000 people working for employers who have voluntarily signed up to the Real Living Wage are getting a pay boost of 40p to £9.90 an hour.

This is not to be confused with the compulsory National living wage increase.

The Real Living Wage ensures that all staff earn a wage that meets the real cost of living and covers everyday essentials.

Kickstart youth jobless plan helps 100,000

More than 100,000 young people have so far started new roles under the government’s £2bn Kickstart jobs scheme, latest figures show.

Ministers are now appealing for employers to come forward with job offers before the scheme closes on 17 December.

The government covers the national minimum wage for each successful placement for six months, at 25 hours per week.
